Battery With Visual Indicator
Warning information for the high voltage system:
For procedures where the ignition must be switched off, refer to PROCEDURES FOR WHICH THE IGNITION NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED OFF .
Applies only to the auxiliary battery in hybrid vehicles.
The auxiliary battery A1 is located in the spare wheel well near battery A. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE COMPONENTS AND CABLES OVERVIEW .
Batteries with or without visual indicator must not be opened.
- As the "visual indicator" is only located in a battery cell, only the battery electrolyte level for this battery cell can be checked.
- The "visual indicator" -arrow- provides information about the fluid levels and the charge level for the battery being checked.
- Bubbles can build up under the "visual indicator" when the battery is charging and also while driving, causing the color displayed to be incorrect.
-- Remove the bubbles under the "visual indicator" by lightly and carefully tapping the "visual indicator" -arrow- with the handle of a screwdriver.
Read the battery electrolyte level present in the color display. Two different displays are possible:
| Color display | Battery level |
|---|---|
| Black or green |
|
| Colorless or light yellow |
|

If the "visual indicator" is colorless or light yellow, do not check or charge the battery. Do not try to jump start it! There is a risk of explosion when checking, charging, or jumping the battery. The battery must be replaced! .
