Steering Column, Removing And Installing: Removing
On dynamic steering system steering columns, never loosen or remove the dynamic steering unit bolts.
The steering column is delivered only as a complete replacement part. Service is not possible.
If the steering column is being the replaced, the Power Adjustable Steering Column Control Module -J866- is already installed on the new steering column and does not need to be modified.
The Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764- is not a part of the new steering column and must converted on vehicles with the lock locking system. Refer to Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Select the "replace" function for the Power Adjustable Steering Column Control Module -J866- in "Guided Functions" if the steering column is being replaced.
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Follow the prompts on the screen.
-- Straighten the wheels.
-- Position the steering wheel as far down as possible using the full range of the steering column adjuster.
-- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
-- Remove the airbag steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the steering column trim. Refer to OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN .
-- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
-- Remove the instrument cluster trim. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
-- Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to [For engine(s) CTUB, CEJA, CGTA, CDRA, CEUA, CPNA] Steering Column Switch Module, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the footwell vent -1- on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicles with Knee Airbags
-- Remove the knee airbag and the bracket for the knee airbag. Refer to Knee Airbag with Igniter N295/N296, Removing and Installing .
Vehicles with Dynamic Steering
-- Loosen the clips -2- on the wiring harness.
-- Disconnect the connector -3- and loosen the wiring harness from the steering column -1-.
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the steering intermediate shaft -3- from the steering column -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -1- from the pedal bracket -2-.
-- Remove the bolts -3- from the steering column -4-.
-- Disconnect the connector -5- from the wiring harness and from the relay panel.
-- Support the steering column from underneath with one hand and remove the bolts -1 and 2- with the other hand.
-- Pull the steering column back slightly, disengage it from the positioning holes -arrows- on the central tube and lower it.
-- For vehicles with steering lock lockup system, disconnect the connector -1- from the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764- -3-.
-- Remove the clip -2- and remove the steering column.
