Power Steering Pump, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With Dynamic Steering With 6-Cylinder Engine: Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
Replace seals and sealing rings.
Before installing the new power steering pump on the intake side, fill with Hydraulic Oil and install it by hand until oil drains out on the high pressure side.
Secure all hose connections with new hose clamps. Refer to the Parts information.
Due to space restrictions, the clamp cannot be tightened using the :VAG1275A when the power steering pump is installed.
Make sure the intake hose is installed correctly and is not twisted or bent.
-- Note the installed dimension of the clamp. The dimension -a- must be 4 mm.
-- Install the intake hose -3- so that the "P" and the seam -arrow- are facing each other before installing the power steering pump. Refer to -item 5- OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, VEHICLES WITH DYNAMIC STEERING WITH 6-CYLINDER ENGINE.
-- Install the intake hose with a new clamp -4-.
Make sure the intake hose is installed correctly and is not twisted or bent.
-- Install the power steering pump -2-.
- The sleeve -3- is driven back slightly.
-- Turn the hub by hand until the oil comes out the pressure side.
-- Push the pressure line all the way into the power steering pump and then install the union nut -1-.
-- Connect the connector -2-.
-- Clean oiled places in engine compartment.
-- Align the marking -arrow- made on the belt pulley to the marking made on the hub.
-- Tighten the bolts -arrows- by using the :T10172A -1- with the :T10172/5-9 .
-- Install the power steering pump ribbed belt. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
-- Bleed the steering. Refer to STEERING, BLEEDING AFTER REPLACING .
-- Check the steering for leaks. Refer to STEERING, CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
-- Check power steering fluid level. Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
When installing ribbed belt, ensure it is correctly seated in ribbed belt pulley.
