Tires, Checking Condition, Wear Pattern, Tread Depth And Pressure
Delivery Inspection
-- Check tire wear pattern and the side walls for damage, remove any foreign bodies, if necessary.
Inspection Service
-- Check tire wear pattern and the side walls for damage, remove any foreign bodies, if necessary.
-- Check tire treads for cupping, feathering, one-sided tread wear, porous side walls, cracks, cuts, and rim damage.
Inform the customer of any damage found.
Tires, Checking Wear Pattern
-- The wear pattern of the front wheels can be used to assess whether a check of the track and camber is necessary:
- Feathered edges of the treads may indicate faulty toe adjustment.
- One-sided tread wear is mostly caused by faulty camber.
If such wear patterns are found, determine the causes by checking the wheel alignment (repair measure).
Tread Depth, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Test pin :T40139
The scale is marked with tire symbol to be used when measuring the tread depth.
-- Check the tread depth on all tires using test pin :T40139 and then write them down in the maintenance table.
- Minimum tread depth: 1.6 mm
The minimum tread depth is reached when the tires have worn down level with the 1.6 mm high tread wear indicators -arrows- positioned at intervals around the tire.
This value may vary for individual countries due to different legislative regulations.
If the tread wear is close to the wear limits, inform customer and note findings on the repair order.
Tire Pressure, Correcting
The tire pressures are on the label on the inside of the driver door.
The tire pressures listed on the label are cold tire pressures. Do not reduce tire pressure when the tires are warm.
Tire Repair Kit, Checking Expiration Date
The bottle of sealant is inside the spare wheel well.
-- Remove the bottle and check the expiration date -arrow-.
Replace a bottle that has already been used.
If expiration date has passed, replace bottle.
Spare Tire
- Spare wheel with standard tire
Maintain the highest specified tire pressure for the tire size according to the tire pressure label.
- Mini spare tire
The tire pressure is on the sidewall.
- Break-down kit
Tire Repair Kit, Checking Expiration Date
Tire valves must be sealed with valve caps. Otherwise, dirt can enter valve needle which becomes jammed and can no seal shut.
