Battery Cooling Module, Bringing Into Service Position
Installed on Vehicles with High Voltage Systems (hybrid vehicles)
Read and follow all of the supplemental warnings for all work performed on vehicles with the high voltage system, refer to HIGH VOLTAGE VEHICLES SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and WORKING ON VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM (HYBRID VEHICLES) .
If it is necessary for the following procedure to perform work in the vicinity of high voltage components, "perform a visual inspection of the high voltage components and cables for damages" (Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE COMPONENTS AND CABLES, CHECKING FOR DAMAGE .) and "always follow the warnings when working on the high voltage system", refer to WORKING ON VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM (HYBRID VEHICLES) .
-- Turn off the ignition.
Disable the High Voltage System
- Before beginning work on the high voltage system, a high voltage technician must disable the high voltage system, refer to the High Voltage System, Disabling (HYBRID) service information. .
- Use the respective processes for work performed on the high voltage system, for which the system is required to be switched on. For further information about the high voltage system, refer to WORKING ON VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM (HYBRID VEHICLES) .
Risk of electrocution
Death or serious bodily injury by electric shock.
- The high voltage system may only be activated by qualified personnel (Audi high voltage mechanic).
- Make sure that the high voltage system is completely disabled. Make sure the vehicle is de-energized using "Guided Fault Finding" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- The qualified personal (Audi high voltage technician) determines the voltage and secures the system from restarting using the Service Disconnect Lock :T40262 . Keep the ignition key and the High Voltage System Maintenance Connector -TW- safely with the qualified personal to secure the system from restarting.
- The Audi high voltage technician should put a sign on the vehicle to identify it as a high voltage vehicle.
Disable the high voltage system:
Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Select the Guided Fault Finding mode.
Using the GO TO button, select the following menu commands
Functions/Component Selection
Body
Electrical Equipment
OBD-Capable System
8C - Hybrid Battery Management -J840
8C - Hybrid Battery Management, Functions
51 - Disable the High Voltage System (refer to the appropriate service information.)
Bring the Battery Coolant Module Into the Service Position
-- Remove the luggage compartment floor covering, refer to OVERVIEW - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR .
-- Remove the traction battery, refer to the appropriate service information. .
-- Remove the rear outlet air guide for the traction battery, refer to Traction Battery -A2- REAR OUTLET AIR GUIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the inlet air guide for the traction battery, refer to Traction Battery -A2- INLET AIR GUIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the front outlet air guide for the traction battery, refer to Traction Battery -A2- FRONT OUTLET AIR GUIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 3-.
-- Cut through the cable tie -4- and free up the wiring harness at the body -2-.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.
-- Cover the batteries -A- / -A1- with for example a Fender Protector - Audi :VAG1917A .
-- Remove the battery coolant module -1- and lay it on the uncovered battery as illustrated.
Risk of damaging refrigerant lines and hoses.
- Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order while observing the following.
-- Reinstall the previously removed component.
Restart the High Voltage System
Risk of electrocution
Death or serious bodily injury by electric shock
- The high voltage system may only be restarted by qualified personal (Audi high voltage technicians).
- Make sure the vehicle is energized using the "Guided Fault Finding" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- The qualified personal (Audi high voltage technician) restarts the vehicle.
- The Audi high voltage technician should put a sign on the vehicle to identify it as a high voltage vehicle.
-- Turn on the ignition.
-- After installing, check and, if necessary, erase the displayed faults in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory for the Climatronic Control Module -J255- control head and the Battery Regulation Control Module -J840-, refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
