ATF Level, Checking
-- Turn off the engine.
The ATF temperature must not be more than approximately 30 °C (86 °F) at start of test.
- Transmission not emergency running, ATF temperature not above approximately 30 °C (86 °F)
- Vehicle is horizontal
- The selector level is in "P."
-- Select the following menu entries in Guided Fault Finding Function/Component Selection on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:
- Drivetrain
- 6 Gear-Automatic Transmission 09M
- 01-OBD-Capable Systems
- 02 Transmission Electronics 09M | J217
- 02-Transmission Electronics, Functions
- 02-ATF Level-Checking
-- Follow the instructions in the display.
-- Start the engine.
-- Lift the vehicle.
-- Remove the noise insulation, refer to Underbody Panels, Removing And Installing .
-- Position the container for example Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS6208 under the transmission.
If test temperature: 35 ° to 45 °C (95 ° to 113 °F) is shown:
-- Remove the ATF check plug from the ATF pan.
ATF flows out of the overflow pipe.
If ATF Continues to Leak Out of Hole:
ATF does not need to be topped off.
-- Replace ATF check plug seal -arrow-.
-- Tighten the ATF check plug to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is completed.
If No Oil Drips Out of the Hole:
-- Fill the ATF, refer to ATF, FILLING .
