Power Steering Pump, Removing And Installing, 6-Cylinder Diesel Engine, Vehicles With Dynamic Steering: Removing
-- Place the vehicle on a hoist.
-- Extract the hydraulic fluid from the reservoir using Used Oil Collection and Extraction UnitSMN372500.
-- Carefully remove engine cover from 4 retaining pins in succession -arrows-.
-- Clamp off the evacuation hose -1- and return hose -2- using the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm 3094.
- The Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm 3094 must not be secured on the return hose -2- near the check valve area. Otherwise the check valve will be damaged.
- The check valve is located in the return hose -2- between the hose clamps -arrows-.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [ .
-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Open the clamp -1- on the left longitudinal member and remove the coolant hose -2-.
-- Remove the upper section of the intake manifold -1-. Remove the air guide hose -4-, the eyelet -3-, the clamp -7- and the coolant hose.
-- Remove the coolant reservoir -2-, pull out the oil dipstick -5- and remove the toothed belt guard -6-.
-- Secure the air guide hose -1- to the brake line -3- using a wire -2-.
Mark the direction of travel before removing ribbed belt. Reversed direction of travel with a used belt can lead to malfunctions. When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is seated correctly on pulleys.
-- Move the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- to release the tension on the ribbed belt. Use a Torx Socket - T60 T40087.
-- Remove the ribbed belt from the power steering pump belt pulley. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mark the position of the belt pulley to the hub by making a mark -arrow-.
If the power steering pump will be replaced, transfer the marking from the hub on the old pump to the new one.
Because of space restrictions, it is not possible to see the position of the belt pulley holes to the holes in the hub when installing.
applies to a belt pulley with holes for counter-holding
-- Remove bolts -arrows-. Use Wrench - Pin Type 3212 as counter-hold.
-- Remove belt pulley for vane pump.
applies to a belt pulley without holes for counter-holding
-- First just loosen the belt pulley bolts -arrow-. If necessary use the Counterhold - Kit - Multiple Use T10172 with the Counterhold - Kit - Adapter 5 T10172/5 -1-.
-- Remove the bolts that were previously loosened and remove the belt pulley from the power steering pump.
