  1. Multimedia System Control Head -E380-
    • Using the "car" / "car systems" button, additional A/C system functions can be called up and their settings changed, refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.
    • Check the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function
    • In order to be able to select the different A/C system functions on the multimedia system control head -E380- and display them on the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-, the correct version of the Climatronic Control Module -J255- front A/C display control head must be installed and coded correctly and adapted, refer to the Parts Information and see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
  2. Climatronic Control Module -J255- front A/C display control head
    • There are different versions (for vehicles without or with seat heating/seat ventilation, depending on the time of manufacturer and vehicle equipment), allocation, refer to the Parts Information.
    • CLIMATRONIC CONTROL MODULE -J255- FRONT A/C DISPLAY CONTROL HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • The infrared sensor for temperature and sunlight is integrated in the Climatronic Control Module -J255- (cannot be replaced separately).
    • The Guided Fault Finding of the Climatronic Control Module -J255- must be performed as described in Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
    • Also pay attention to the information regarding the Climatronic Control Module -J255- front A/C display control head, refer to CLIMATRONIC CONTROL MODULE -J255- FRONT A/C DISPLAY CONTROL HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
      NOTE:

The buttons and knobs have LEDs that cannot be replaced individually.

The function and indicator lamps in the buttons and in the knobs cannot be replaced separately.

Pay attention to the correct allocation, coding, and adaptation of the Climatronic Control Module -J255- to the Front Information Display Control Head Control Module -J523- /Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, refer to the Parts Information and see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function. If the allocation, coding or adaptation are incorrect, the A/C function cannot be displayed or selected in the MMI.

Certain A/C system functions can be switched on and off via the MMI (Multi Media Interface) under the "A/C system" function in the "car" / "car systems" menu. The A/C system control can also be influenced via presettings in the MMI (Multi Media Interface) under the "A/C system" function in the "car" / "car systems" menu. Therefore, first check the presetting in the MMI in the case of a problem with these components, refer to Infotainment/MMI Operating Instructions.

Depending on the version of the control modules (Climatronic Control Module -J255- and Front Information Display Control Head Control Module -J523-) as well as the production period, additional parking heater functions can be switched on and off via these control modules. For further information, refer to Operating Instructions and Infotainment/MMI Operating Instructions.

  3. Infrared sensor for temperature and sunlight
    • The sensor determines the temperature and sunlight on the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255-. It is permanently installed and cannot be replaced separately.
    • If the infrared sensor is covered or dirty, it cannot deliver correct measured values and the A/C system control is faulty.
    • Check the measured value see Vehicle Diagnostic Testerin the "Guided Fault Finding" Function
  4. Position Sensor in Right Center Vent -G627-
    • Center Vent, Removing and Installing, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
      NOTE:

After replacement of the potentiometer (for adapting the end stops), adapt the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255- see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

    • Check the Position Sensor in Right Center Vent -G627- see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function
  5. Front Information Display Control Head -J685-
    • Multi Media Interface (MMI) Display
    • There are different versions and controls, depending on MMI version and vehicle equipment, refer to Infotainment/MMI Operating Instructions.
    • Functions (and various additional A/C system functions) selected via the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255-, are shown on the MMI display Infotainment/MMI Operating Instructions.
    • Using the "car" / "car systems" button of the Multimedia System Control Head -E380- (depending on the vehicle equipment level), additional functions of the A/C system can be called up and their settings can be changed, refer to the Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.
      NOTE:

Ensure correct allocation, coding and adaptation for the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255-, for the Front Information Display Control Head Control Module -J523- /Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- (different versions depending on the production period and vehicle equipment), refer to the Parts Information. If the allocation, coding and adaptation are incorrect, the A/C function cannot be displayed or selected in the MMI.

This vehicle has a start-stop system for specific engines as optional equipment. In vehicles with a start-stop system, the stop function is prevented depending on the setting on the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255-. If, for example, "defrost" is selected, the stop function is not possible or will be interrupted and the engine will start. The same applies in the case of heating and cooling. The difference between the target and actual temperature is greater than a specified value, refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

  6. Position Sensor in Left Center Vent -G626-
    • Center Vent, Removing and Installing, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
      NOTE:

After replacement of the potentiometer (for adapting the end stops), adapt the front A/C display control head, the Climatronic Control Module -J255- see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

    • Check the Position Sensor In Left Center Vent -G626- see Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function
  7. Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285-
    • With outside air temperature display in the driver information system
    • If there is a complaint due to an excessive display value Outside Air Temperature Display -G106- (due to an excessive measured value of the Outside Air Temperature Sensor -G17-), refer to Outside Air Temperature Sensor -G17-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Check the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function
  8. Left side vent with Position Sensor in Left Side Vent -G628-
