Power steering gear, adjusting

NOTE: Two mechanics are required to perform adjustment. Adjust with engine switched off.

Raise vehicle on lifting platform.
Wheels in straight-ahead position.
Turn steering wheel back and forth (roughly 30° about center axis). This will produce a rattling noise in the event of excessive steering play.
Have second mechanic carefully turn in adjusting screw (arrow) until rattling noise inside vehicle disappears.

Perform test drive.
After maneuvering/cornering, make sure steering returns automatically and smoothly to straight ahead position. Correct setting if necessary.
