Strut Assembly: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 15 other vehicles, including the 2005 Audi allroad, 2004 Audi allroad, 2004 Audi A6, 2003 Audi allroad, and 2003 Audi S6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install strut assembly so that hole in lower spring seat faces inside of vehicle. See arrow in Figure . Install lower strut assembly-to-track control link nut and bolt. Finger tighten fasteners only.
  2. NOTE: Remove any adhesive remaining on thread of joint bolt.
  3. Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. The suspension strut/track control link bolt connection should only be tightened when vehicle is standing on ground. Use NEW nut.
  4. Insert upper links (control arms) in wheel bearing housing and tighten NEW nuts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Press upper links down as far as possible when tightening! Tighten nut on joint bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Use 4 mm socket wrench to hold joint bolt, if necessary.
  6. Insert cable of ABS wheel speed sensor into bracket on brake caliper. Screw on NEW nuts for suspension strut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Be careful not to damage surface of brake lines! Put rubber grommets in plenum. Mount wheel and tighten to specification.
  7. Check wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
