-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -arrow- at locking flange.

-- Connect a Hand held remote control (jumper) to terminal 1 using an adapter cable from connector test set.

-- Connect contact 5 to vehicle ground (GND) using a jumper cable from the connector test set.

-- Connect an alligator clip to vehicle battery positive (+).

-- Press the switch on remote control.

NOTE:

The Fuel Pump (FP) runs quietly. Avoid surrounding noises while testing the fuel pump.

If an operating noise is heard, check the voltage as shown below. Refer to FUEL PUMP, ELECTRICAL CHECKING

If no operating noise can be heard:

-- Remove fuel delivery unit. Refer to Component Locations Overview .

Checking internal resistance

-- Using a Multimeter, check the Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- electrical connector terminals 1 to 5 for continuity.

Specified value: 0 Ω.

If the specification was not obtained:

-- Check the Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- electrical harness connector terminals 1 to 5 for a short circuit to Battery positive (+) or an open circuit.

-- If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection.

If no malfunction is detected in the wiring and the resistance value was not OK:

-- Replace the Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- Removal and Installation. Refer to Component Locations Overview .

If no malfunction is detected in the wiring and the resistance value was OK:

Refer to FUEL PUMP, ELECTRICAL CHECKING .

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Press the switch on the Hand held remote control (jumper)

-- Using a Multimeter, check the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- electrical harness connector terminal 1 to Ground (GND) for voltage.

-- Switch the ignition off.

Specified value: Battery voltage.

If the specification was not obtained:

-- Check the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- electrical harness connector terminal 1 to theFuel Pump (FP) Control Module --J538-- terminal 1 for an open circuit, or a short circuit to Battery positive (+) or Ground (GND).

-- Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.

-- If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection.

If the specification was obtained:

Checking Ground (GND)

-- Check the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- electrical harness connector terminal 5 to the Ground (GND) connection for an open circuit, or a short circuit to Battery positive (+) or Ground (GND).

-- Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.

-- If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection.

If no malfunction is detected in the wiring:

-- Replace the Fuel Pump (FP) Control Module --J538--. Refer to Component Locations Overview .

-- Assembly is performed in the reverse of the removal.

After the repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY .
  2. If necessary, erase the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 04 - ERASE DTC MEMORY .
  3. If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE .
