Front Final Drive Cover: Installing

-- Make sure the magnet under plastic cover in front final drive cover is installed.

-- Replace o-ring -1- in front final drive cover.

-- Check cover for secure seating -2-.

-- Check differential -arrow - for correct seating in transmission.

-- Position front final drive cover on transmission housing.

-- Replace all screws on front final drive cover.

-- If present, install shield -B- between final drive cover and screw -1-.

NOTE:

The shield -B- should protect the bleeder hole -arrow A- from dirt and water.

Tightening Sequence:

CAUTION:
  • The 3 screws with spacer washers are inserted in the places marked with the -arrows-.
  • Use original screws only. Refer to parts .
NOTE:

Transmissions, not equipped with spacer washers, only have bolts without a spacer washer installed at the locations marked with -arrows-.

-- Tighten screws on front final drive cover in 2 stages in sequence shown as follows:

-- Step: hand-tighten screws in -1 to 11- sequence.

-- Step: tighten screws in -1 to 11- sequence in several stages to tightening specification.

-- Check left flange shaft seal, replace if necessary. Refer to LEFT FLANGE SHAFT SEAL .

-- Install the left flange shaft. Refer to LEFT FLANGE SHAFT .

-- Fill with gear oil and then check the oil level in the front final drive. Refer to FRONT FINAL DRIVE OVERVIEW

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

The multitronic 01J and 0AN transmission require different axle oil depending on the condition. Only axle oil for Multitronic which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive. Refer to parts .
