Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 , replacing

NOTE:
- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 is a component of the mechatronic unit in the transmission and cannot be replaced separately.
- To achieve optimal anti-theft protection for the vehicle, an anti-theft immobilizer was installed. The anti-theft immobilizer is a system for enabling/locking the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.
- So that this system cannot be circumvented, it is necessary to perform adaptation of the anti-theft immobilizer using the Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS5052 in the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) function.
- If the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 must be replaced, the vehicle may be taken to the nearest Audi dealership.
Work procedure
First, check the control module identification of the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 as follows:
- Connect the Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS5052.
- Switch the ignition on.
- In diagnostic function "address word 33 - OBD" select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information."
- Select the "Test-ID 04: Calibration identification".
- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 identification will be displayed, e.g.: 09G27750 L 0301
- End diagnosis and switch the ignition off.
- Replace the Mechatronic unit in the transmission: → 38 GEARS, CONTROL .
- Check the identification of the new Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 to ensure it matches the old Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.
- Code the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 → Diagnostic Mode 09: Vehicle information .
- Generate readiness code. → Readiness Code Description .
