Section 2 (Suspension - Front): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Audi S4, 2004 Audi A4, 2003 Audi A4, and 2002 Audi A4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Front suspension is a MacPherson strut independent type suspension. See Fig 1.

Vehicles with gas discharge lamps have an automatic headlight range control installed as standard. To function correctly, automatic headlight range control requires information about the compression and rebound travel at front and rear axles. For this purpose, position of the bottom left link in relation to body is transmitted to left front level control system sensor by means of an actuating arm. See Fig 2. This transfers electrical signals to the control module for headlight range control module. Vehicle level can change as a result of the following situations:

NOTE: Basic headlight setting must always be checked if link has been removed, or replaced.

Shock absorber combination installed on vehicle, can be seen from the corresponding PR number on vehicle data sticker. See Fig 3. See SUSPENSION VERSION IDENTIFICATION  table. Vehicle data sticker can be found in spare wheel well, and in Maintenance manual.
