Kick-down function, adapting after replacing gas pedal module or engine control module (ECM)

NOTE:

If the throttle position sensor or engine control module are replaced in vehicles with automatic transmission, the kick-down function must be adapted.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Test conditions

Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 connected, On-board diagnostics and Data Link Connector DLC "01 Engine electronics" selected.
Engine not running, ignition switched on.
No DTCs in DTC memory.

Display on VAS 5051 A :

Select "063" in button field - 2 - for "display group 063" and confirm input by pressing Q button.

Display on VAS 5051 :

Scan tool display: "Operate kick-down".

Scan tool display: "Kick-down ADP running". After kick-down adaptation is completed, the display shows "Kick-down ADP OK".

NOTE:

If "Kick-down ERROR" is displayed: Check DTC Memory.
"ERROR" could be displayed e.g. if the accelerator pedal is not immediately depressed after prompting the tester or if the accelerator pedal is released during adaptation, even though adaptation had not been completed. Exit the function "04 - Basic setting" by pressing ← button and perform adaptation again.
