Display group 3: Activating ESP driving test

The ESP driving test is used to test the plausibility of the signals from the sensor for transverse acceleration, sender for rotation rate and pressure sensor.

The ESP driving test should be carried out after any components of the ESP system are removed or replaced.

Connect the VAG1551 Scan Tool and select the address word 03 "Brake Electronics". See VAG1551 SCAN TOOL (ST), CONNECTING AND ENTERING ADDRESS WORD .

The ESP driving test is activated.
The ABS warning light -K47- and the traction control indicator light -K86- go on.

Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Disconnect VAG 1551 scan tool.
Start engine.
Press the brake pedal hard (brake pressure higher than 35 bar) until the traction control indicator light -K86- turns off.
This completes the adjustment with the engine not running
Perform the following test drive:
- Drive around a right (left) hand curve and then around a left (right) hand curve.
The ABS warning light -K47- must go out. This completes the ESP driving test and the system is OK.
NOTE:
- Always follow the rules of the road and pay attention to traffic conditions.
- While driving around the curves, a sender for rotation rate of around 10°/sec must be attained. A curve with a radius of 10 - 12 m and a speed of 15 - 20 km/h for around 4 sec. fulfills this requirement. The test drive must not require the use of ESP, ASR, EDL, or ABS. Other maneuvers required while driving around the curves do not influence the test.
If the ABS warning light -K47- does not go out, the ESP driving test was not carried out correctly.
If the ABS warning light -K47- does not go out and the traction control indicator light -K86- comes back on, there are malfunctions in the system. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY (SCAN TOOL FUNCTION 02), CHECKING .
NOTE: If the ESP driving test was interrupted, by switching off the ignition, for example, you must repeat the entire test.
