Multi-function steering wheel switches/buttons, removing and installing: Removing
CAUTION:
Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. See EMERGENCY (BACK-UP) BATTERY, SWITCH ON/OFF, RESET TIME REGISTER .
- After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to appropriate article and/or Owner's Manual.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module. See EMERGENCY (BACK-UP) BATTERY, SWITCH ON/OFF, RESET TIME REGISTER .

- Unlatch steering column adjustment. Pull steering wheel as far out and up as possible.
- Remove airbag unit.
See appropriate Air Bag Restrain System article in RESTRAINTS.
- Carefully flip airbag unit forward.
- Carefully disconnect electrical connectors -1- and -2- at airbag unit. See Fig 1 .
- Remove airbag unit.
- Disconnect applicable electrical connectors -3- and remove screws -arrows- at desired switch.
- Remove switch toward front.
- Remove Tiptronic switch -1- by first disconnecting electrical connection -2-.
- Press desired switch assembly -1- towards center of steering wheel to remove.
