DTC P0707/17091 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Low Input
NOTE:
VAG 1551 scan tool is necessary to perform procedure.
- Ensure PCM coding is correct. See PCM CODING
in this article. If PCM coding is correct, go to next step. If PCM coding was incorrect, erase DTC memory and test drive vehicle.NOTE: During next step, only look at fields identified in VAG 1551 display, ignore fields with an X.
- Using VAG 1551 scan tool, use READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK mode, function 08, display group 04. With transmission selector lever in "P" or "N". VAG 1551 should display XXX_1X. Apply brake and put transmission selector lever in "1", "2", "3", "R" and "D". VAG 1551 should display XXX_0X. If VAG 1551 scan tool display did not change even though PCM coding is correct, go to next step. If VAG 1551 scan tool display was correct, erase DTC memory and test drive vehicle.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Connect VAG 1598/19 test box to PCM wiring harness. Terminal assignments of test box are identical to PCM connectors "A", "B", "C", "D" and "E".
- With ignition on, connect VAG 1527B voltage tester between test box sockets 11B (signal) and 10B (constant B+). Voltage tester should light up with transmission selector lever in "P" or "N", then go out in "1", "2", "3", "R" and "D". If voltage tester performs as specified, replace faulty PCM. Code new PCM and test drive vehicle. See PCM CODING in this article.
- If voltage tester lights up constantly or not at all, check wiring harness for a short to ground, short to B+, or open circuit between PCM connector B terminal No. 11 and multifunction switch (selector lever switch). See WIRING DIAGRAMS section. Erase DTC memory and test drive vehicle.
- If wiring harness is okay, check multifunction switch (selector lever switch).
