Intake Manifold Change-Over (IMCO) Valve

  1. Increase engine speed to more than 4100 RPM. If IMCO valve vacuum motor is actuated, system is okay. If IMCO valve vacuum motor is not actuated, disconnect electrical connector from IMCO valve control solenoid. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table at beginning of article.
  2. Measure resistance across terminals of IMCO valve control solenoid. If resistance is not 25-35 ohms, replace IMCO valve control solenoid. If resistance is 25-35 ohms, apply battery voltage across terminals of IMCO valve control solenoid. Replace IMCO valve control solenoid if it does not operate. If IMCO valve control solenoid operates, check ECM and wiring.
