SERVICE INFORMATION

The following information will be added to the Audi 100 Repair Manual, Automatic Transmission 01F, at the next reprinting.

ABS CONTROL MODULE WIRING CONNECTION, CHECKING

The pin positions of the 35-pin connector for the ABS Control Module (J104) changed with the introduction of a new control module in 07/92.

NOTE: The ABS Control Module is located under the left rear seat bench.

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located in the electronic box under the carpeting of the right footwell.

  1. Connect test box VAG 1598 with adapter cable VAG 1598/5 to wiring harness connector for TCM (J217).
  2. Separate connector for ABS Control Module.
  3. Check wiring connection between 35-pin connector (shown in Fig 1 ) of ABS Control Module (J104) and TCM (J217) with digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119) and auxiliary cables from VAG 1594:

    NOTE: Specified Value: Must be less than 1.5 Ohms (continuity)
    • If multimeter reads infinite Ohms (no continuity), check for open circuit and repair as necessary.
    • If multimeter reads up to 20 K Ohms, check for short circuit to Ground (GND), repair as necessary.
    • Check wiring if necessary.
    • If no wiring malfunctions are found, check ABS with VAG 1710. See Technical Bulletin,GROUP 45, NO. 93-01 , June 15, 1993.
NOTE: If malfunctions of the wheel speed sensors and wiring are not found, replace ABS Control Module (J104).
