Ignition Coil Resistance Check

  1. Using ohmmeter, check ignition coil primary and secondary resistance. Disconnect coil primary and secondary ignition leads. Connect ohmmeter leads across primary terminals No. 1 and No. 15 at coil. See Figure . Resistance value should be .5-1.5 ohms.
  2. Connect ohmmeter leads between positive terminal No. 1 and coil high voltage tower. See Figure . Secondary resistance value should be 5000-9000 ohms. If resistance values are not as specified, replace ignition coil.
