Ignition Coil
All systems use an ignition coil equipped with side mounted power stage which switches primary current in coil on and off. Power stage is controlled by signals from ECU.
Detonation Retard Operation (2.2L Turbo)
Knock sensor is mounted at center of left side of cylinder block. A 3-wire connector (Red) transmits signals to the ECU. The knock sensor signal will retard ignition timing in 3 steps of 2.6 degree increments, for a total of 7.8 degrees retard. When knocking stops, ECU will reverse the process back to the point knocking started.
