Strut Assembly: Removal
- Loosen axle nut with vehicle weight on wheels. On 100 and 200 Turbo models, remove 3 inner spring plate nuts in engine compartment. Remove plate. Remove strut nut. Install Spring Compressor (2070/1) on strut stud threads. Mount spring retaining plate using 3 spring plate nuts. Tighten compressor nut until seated.
- On all models, raise vehicle and support with safety stands. Remove wheel assembly. Without detaching brake hose or line, remove brake caliper bolts and brake hose bracket. Suspend caliper aside. Remove brake rotor.
- Disconnect stabilizer bar and tie rod end. On models with 1-piece strut/bearing housing assembly, disconnect ball joint from steering knuckle. Using puller attached to hub studs, press stub axle from hub. On 80 and 90 models with 2-piece strut/bearing housing assembly, axle shaft DOES NOT have to be removed. Remove 2 strut-to-bearing housing retaining bolts.
- While supporting strut assembly at bottom, remove attaching nut(s) at strut tower. Remove strut assembly.
