Up-Shift Switch Test

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster and up-shift switch. Attach up-shift switch to Vacuum Tester (V.A.G.1368). Attach vacuum pump to tester. Close tester valve No. 1 and turn tester valve No. 2 to (AB) position so vacuum passes through.
  2. Plug open end of up-shift switch. Measure resistance on up-shift terminals with ohmmeter. Ohmmeter should read zero ohms. If not, replace switch. With a vacuum pump, apply a minimum of 10 in. Hg. Connect ohmmeter to up-shift switch and release vacuum slowly with tester valve No. 1.
  3. Ohmmeter should read infinite with 7.5 in. Hg applied. If not within specification, adjust up-shift switch by turning adjusting screw clockwise for a lower shift point and counterclockwise for a higher shift point.
