Regulator By-Pass Test
- If output voltage is low and there is no indication of defective diodes, start and run engine at idle. Connect voltmeter between "B+" terminal and ground.
- Using a screwdriver, ground regulator connecting strip to alternator frame. See Fig 1. Gradually increase engine RPM and observe voltmeter. If output voltage increases to 16 volts, replace voltage regulator. If not, repair alternator.
