Lower Chamber Pressure-Part II

  1. Turn off Jumper (US 4480/3). Close valve to pressure gauge. Connect Adapter (VW 1315A/1) between differential pressure regulator and connector. Connect DVOM (US 1119) to adapter with scale set to DCA 200 mA. Disconnect plug from NTC coolant temperature sensor.
  2. Connect 15,000 ohm side of Resistor Tool (VW 1490) to NTC sensor plug. Turn ignition and Jumper (US 4480/3) on. Differential pressure must be 10-17.5 psi (.7-1.2 kg/cm2 ) less than system pressure. Regulator current should be 60-80 mA on 4-cylinder models and 50-80 mA on 5-cylinder models.
  3. If pressure is incorrect and current is correct, replace differential pressure regulator. If both pressure and current are incorrect, remove adapter (1315A/1) from differential pressure regulator. Ensure resistance of regulator is 17.5-21.5 ohms. If not, replace differential pressure regulator.
  4. If resistance is correct, check ground wire from NTC plug to cold start valve. If ground is good, check power supply fuse (Fuse No. 24). If fuse is good, check connections on ECU connector. Replace ECU if connector checks good.
