Opening Test (4.2L Engine)

  1. With engine at normal operating temperature and at idle speed, rapidly open and close throttle (rev engine to at least 1500 RPM) while observing the EGR diaphragm. Movement of the EGR valve diaphragm should be seen.
  2. If the diaphragm does not move, probable causes are a faulty vacuum signal to EGR valve, a defective EGR valve diaphragm, a defective backpressure sensor diaphragm or a vacuum leak.
