Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures: Adjustments: Toe-In

  1. Inspect tires for feathered edges and steering components for wear before adjustment. Correct any mechanical conditions as necessary. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position with steering wheel centered.
  2. Use steering wheel lock to clamp steering wheel into position. Adjust toe-in by turning tie rod adjuster tubes equally in or out to shorten or lengthen tie rods to obtain desired toe-in.
    NOTE: Rusted tie rod threads may be cleaned with anti-rust compound. Apply grease to threads to prevent future corrosion. If adjusting tubes are seized on threads, hold tie rod with pipe wrench or Vise Grip pliers while loosening tube.
  3. Before tightening adjuster tube clamp nuts, center tie rod ball sockets on studs. Position open ends of adjuster tube clamps so they face upward and tighten. See Fig 1 .
