Oxygen (O2) Sensor

  1. Test continuity of harness between O2 sensor connector and pin 9 of ECU harness connector J2. Ensure that the wiring harness is not shorted to ground. Repair or replace as necessary.
  2. Test continuity between sensor ground (exhaust manifold) and pin 13 of ECU connector J2. Repair harness if needed.
  3. Check sensor operation by driving vehicle with a test lamp (No. 158 bulb) connected between pins 2 and 4 of diagnostic connector D2.
  4. Bulb lighted at start is normal operation for test circuit. If the bulb does not light after warm up, the O2 sensor is functioning normally. If the bulb stays lit or lights after the engine warms up, replace the O2 sensor.
  5. Before installing new sensor, check for system failures which may have caused O2 sensor malfunction. System failures which can affect O2 sensor are: EGR solenoid control, canister purge control, PCV system, secondary ignition circuit and fuel delivery system.
