NO-START CONDITION AFTER TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED
YEAR(S): All Years
MANUFACTURER: American Motors Renault
MODEL(S): Alliance, Encore
ISSUE & TIP
When replacing a torque converter or flywheel on a Renault Alliance or Encore, you could accidentally cause a no-start.
The crank angle sensor gets its signal not from the flywheel, but from marks on the torque converter. When you bolt up the torque converter to the flywheel, you have three possibilities but only one is right. The crank angle sensor must see the torque converter marks when the engine reaches TDC on number 1. To avoid confusion, make some marks on the flywheel and converter before you unbolt anything.
