Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Place the steering wheel in a central position with the wheels straight.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  4. Remove and DISCARD  the steering shaft pinch bolt (1a) and slide the steering shaft coupler (1b) off of the steering gear (1c).
  5. Lower the car.

  6. Remove any parts which obstruct the removal of the bulkhead seal (1a).
  7. Remove the three bulkhead seal frame nuts (2a).

  8. Remove the bulkhead seal frame (1a) and retract the bulkhead seal (1b) into the cabin.

  9. Using a knife release the button (1a) retaining the lower left air diffuser (1b).
  10. Remove the lower left air diffuser (1b).

  11. Release the retainers (1a) of the wiring from the steering column shaft support (1b).
  12. Remove the four steering column to dash frame nuts (2a).
  13. Disconnect the electric steering wheel lock module wire harness connector.
  14. Remove the steering column (1b).

  15. Disconnect the electrical harness connector (1a) for the electric steering wheel lock module (1b).
  16. Working carefully and with the help of an assistant, remove the support with the steering column shaft (1a) from the passenger compartment, bringing the external profile (1b) of the bulkhead seal inside the passenger cabin.

  17. If necessary, release the retaining clip (1a) and remove the heat shield (1b) releasing it from the housing.

  18. If necessary, remove the bulkhead seal (1a) remove the heat shield (1b).
  19. Release the bulkhead seal (1a) from the housing (1c)
  20. Remove the bulkhead seal (1a) from the shaft, taking care not to damage it while passing it over the universal joint (1d).
  21. If required, remove the electronic steering wheel lock module bolts (2a) and remove the electronic steering wheel lock module (2b).
