Removal And Installation: Removal
- Place the steering wheel in a central position with the wheels straight.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the engine belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the steering column control module. Refer to MODULE, STEERING COLUMN CONTROL (SCCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the right front floor air outlet. Refer to OUTLET, AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine box reinforcement brace. Refer to BRACE, ENGINE BOX REINFORCEMENT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the A/C suction line. Refer to LINE, A/C SUCTION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or LINE, A/C SUCTION JUMPER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove and DISCARD the mounting bolt (1a) securing the steering control shaft end (1b) to the steering gear (1c).
- Disconnect the end of the steering control shaft (1b) from the steering gear (1c).
- Remove the nut (1a) that secures the A/C liquid line (1b) to the expansion valve (1c).
- Remove the A/C liquid line retaining clamps (1a) from the strut tower.
- Move the A/C liquid line (1b) out of the way.
- Remove the mounting nuts (1a) securing the external profile (1b) of the bulkhead seal of the steering control shaft (1c).
- Remove the mounting nuts (1a) and (1b) securing the steering control shaft support (1c) to the crossmember under the dashboard.
- Slightly lower the steering column shaft support (1c).
- Disconnect the electrical harness connector (1a) for the electric steering wheel lock module (1b).
- Working carefully and with the help of an assistant, remove the support with the steering column shaft (1a) from the passenger compartment, bringing the external profile (1b) of the bulkhead seal inside the passenger cabin.
- If necessary, release the retaining clip (1a) and remove the heat shield (1b) releasing it from the housing.
- 1. If necessary, to remove the bulkhead seal (1a) remove the heat shield (1b).
- Release the bulkhead seal (1a) from the housing (1c)
- Remove the bulkhead seal (1a) from the shaft, taking care not to damage it while passing it over the cardan joint (1d).
- If required, remove the mounting bolts (2a) and remove the electronic steering wheel lock module (2b).
