Starter System Reactivation After Airbag Deployment
A pyrotechnic fuse (2a) is installed on the vehicle and specifically in the small fusebox (3) located on the positive battery terminal. In case of accident with deployment of the airbags, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) will cause this fuse to blow.
By blowing this fuse, the foil will break which normally allows battery voltage to reach the starter motor, alternator and the various components, each of which must be powered. Once this fuse has blown, the vehicle cannot be restarted until the fused is replaced with a new one.
In the event of a collision and the airbags are deployed, the starter cut-off system operates, causing the interruption of the battery voltage to the starter, alternator and other components.
IMPORTANT
Carefully check the vehicle for fuel leaks, for instance in the engine compartment, under the vehicle or near the tank area. After a collision, turn the ignition to OFF to prevent the battery from running down.
Starter reactivation procedure
To restore correct operation of the starter, replace the battery pyrotechnic fuse (2a) in the small fusebox (3) on the positive battery terminal.
