Remote Start
DESCRIPTION
Available on automatic transmission equipped vehicles only.
Remote start conveniently starts the engine from outside the vehicle by using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob while maintaining security. The system has a targeted range of at lest 328 ft. (100 m). The vehicle must be locked, the deck lid and hood closed and the transmission in Park in order to start the engine using the Remote Start button on the key fob.
OPERATION
There can be a 3-5 second delay between horn chips when remote starting. Customers attempting to press the remote start button again in this time frame can inadvertently disable to the remote start request.
All of the following conditions must be met before the engine will remote start:
Remote Start Operation:
- The Radio Frequency Hub Module (RFHM) detects that the remote start button has been pressed twice,
- The RFHM then broadcasts a message to the Keyless Ignition Node (KIN).
- The Body Control Module receives the "Starter Enable" request over the CAN-C bus.
- Once the following conditions have been met, the BCM broadcasts the request over the CAN-C bus:
- Shift lever in PARK
- Electric Park Brake is not applied
- Electric Steering Lock not unlocked
- Doors closed
- Hood closed
- HAZARD switch off
- BRAKE switch inactive (brake pedal not pressed)
- Battery at an acceptable charge level
- FOB PANIC button not pressed
- Invalid SKIM key in use.
- System not disabled from previous remote start event
- Vehicle theft alarm not active
- Ignition in OFF state
- Suitable fuel level condition
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is not on
- An existing crank no start or crank no fire issue exists
- The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives the "Starter Enable" request over the CAN-C bus.
- The PCM applies a Low Side Driver (LSD) as needed to energize the starter relay.
- Starter Relay K1 is actuated. This relay is powered by a dedicated 10A fuse in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) allowing the starter to crank.
The remote start antenna is used to provide a greater range for remote start operation and is connected to, and monitored by the RFHM. The RFHM will perform self- diagnostics on the attached remote start antenna to determine if it is connected to the RFHM and drawing current.
