Steering Box Boot

NOTE:

Removal process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the right or left steering rod, depending on the boot to be replaced. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Open the retaining bands (1a) and remove the steering box boot (1b).

Installation 

NOTE:

Installation process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

  1. Even if the bushings (1a) do not seem to have come out of the seat, check using the special fitting tool (1b).
    NOTE:

    If one or more bushings come completely out of the seat, replace the steering knuckle.

    2.000.030.600 Kit Extracting/fitting wheel steering knuckle bushes
  2. Fit the steering box gaiter in its housing and secure it using the new retaining bands.
  3. Fit the right or left steering rod, depending on the gaiter replaced. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the car from the lift.
  6. Perform Front End Alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
