Steering Box Boot
NOTE:
Removal process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.
Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the right or left steering rod, depending on the boot to be replaced. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Open the retaining bands (1a) and remove the steering box boot (1b).
Installation
NOTE:
Installation process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.
- Even if the bushings (1a) do not seem to have come out of the seat, check using the special fitting tool (1b).NOTE:
If one or more bushings come completely out of the seat, replace the steering knuckle.
Tool Name Function 2.000.030.600 Kit Extracting/fitting wheel steering knuckle bushes - Fit the steering box gaiter in its housing and secure it using the new retaining bands.
- Fit the right or left steering rod, depending on the gaiter replaced. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the car from the lift.
- Perform Front End Alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
