DTC P0299:  Turbocharger Underboost Problem

General Description

GHH529220Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.
GHH529221Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

The powertrain control module (PCM) controls the turbocharger control system to control boost pressure. When the difference between the target boost pressure and actual boost pressure is at a specified value for a predetermined time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration 6.0 seconds or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL on

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
Engine coolant temperature [ECT Sensor 1] 155.9 deg.F (68.8 deg.C) -
Engine speed [Engine Speed] 62 kPa (460 mmHg, 18.1 inHg)* 3, 000 rpm -
71 kPa (530 mmHg, 20.9 inHg)* 2, 750 rpm -
84 kPa (624 mmHg, 24.6 inHg)* 2, 400 rpm -
95 kPa (714 mmHg, 28.1 inHg)* 2, 180 rpm -
101 kPa (760 mmHg, 29.9 inHg)* 2, 100 rpm -
Other No change of boost pressure upper limit

*: Barometric pressure [Baro Sensor]

[ ]: HDS Parameter

Malfunction Threshold

The difference between the target boost pressure and actual boost pressure is 5.9 kPa (43.6 mmHg, 1.72 inHg) or more and the boost pressure is 59.2 - 180.5 kPa (443.6 - 1, 354.6 mmHg, 17.48 - 53.37 inHg) or less* for at least 6.0 seconds.

*: Varies with driving conditions.

Possible Cause

NOTE:

The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes

  • Turbocharger wastegate control valve stuck open failure
  • Turbocharger bypass control valve open/close failure
  • Turbine damage or seizure
  • Exhaust pipe clogged
  • Air cleaner element clogged
  • Air tube between compressor and intercooler damage/leakage
  • Turbocharger boost sensor range/performance problem
  • BARO sensor range/performance problem

Confirmation Procedure

Operating Condition

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
