DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0034 (1.5L Engine)
DTC P0034: Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage
General Description
The turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve is activated by the powertrain control module (PCM) to control the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve timing to improve boost response during acceleration immediately after deceleration and boost pressure decrease during deceleration. The turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve is normally closed (negative pressure side). If the return signal is CLOSE for a specified duration when the PCM outputs an OPEN signal to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
The return signal is CLOSE for at least 1 second when the PCM outputs an OPEN signal to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve ABV line short to ground
- PCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Start the engine, and let it idle for at least 1 second.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
