Stall Speed Test: Test

How to use this service information .

NOTICE: 

NOTE:

The stall speed should be the same in all positions/modes.

  1. Stall Speed - Test

    Preconditions 

    • Engine Warmed Up
      NOTE:

      Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3, 000 RPM until the cooling fan(s) comes on.

    • Parking Brake Applied
    • All Four Wheels Blocked
    • A/C Switch OFF
    • ATF Level Normal Condition 
    • HDS Connected

    Procedure/Specifications 

    1. Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence.

    • AT (System Selection Menu)
    • Data List

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Shift the transmission to D position/mode while pressing the brake pedal firmly, then press the accelerator pedal, and note the engine speed.

    NOTICE:  Do not change the shift position/mode or remove your foot off the brake pedal, while raising the engine speed.

    4. Allow 2 minutes for cooling, then repeat the test in R position/mode.

    Specifications 

    HDS Item Application Position/Mode Standard Value
    Engine Speed Without AWD D 1, 400-1, 800 RPM
    R 1, 600-2, 000 RPM
    3.0 L Engine (With AWD) D 2, 000-2, 300 RPM
    R 2, 100-2, 400 RPM
    3.5 L Engine (With AWD) D 1, 600-2, 000 RPM
    R 1, 900-2, 300 RPM

    Result 

    • If the measurement is not within specifications, refer to the problem and primary probable cause listed in the table.

    Abnormal Details

    Stall speed RPM high in D position/mode
    • Clutch pressure control solenoid valve G defective
    • B1 cut valve defective
    • B1 brake defective
    Stall speed RPM high in R position/mode
    • Clutch pressure control solenoid valve B defective
    • Clutch pressure control solenoid valve F defective
    • C3 clutch defective
    • B2 brake defective
    Stall speed RPM low in D and R positions/modes Torque converter lock-up clutch piston defective
