DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0715 (1.5L Engine)
DTC P0715: Input Shaft (Mainshaft) Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
General Description
The input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor is attached to the transmission housing to sense input shaft (mainshaft) revolutions. The powertrain control module (PCM) determines the mainshaft speed according to the signal from the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor. If there is no signal from the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor or extraordinary high frequency pulse signal is detected while the mainshaft is running, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Either of the conditions occurs for at least 5 seconds while the engine is running and the clutch is engaged:
- There is no signal from the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor.
- Extraordinary high frequency pulse signal is detected.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor NM line short to ground
- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor NM line open
- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector disconnection
- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor failure
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
