Disconnect:
- Steering Joint
NOTICE:
Do not turn steering wheel while disconnecting steering joint.
NOTE: If the center guide is in place, discard it.
- Front Lower Arm Ball Joint (Both Sides)
Sub-Procedure
Removal
1. Refer to figure 1.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the ball joint boots when installing the ball joint remover . (Figure 1)

3. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe by looping the belt (a) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the belt with its stop (b), and tighten the wing nut (c). (Figure 3)

4. Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the transmission jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts. (Figure 3)

After Installation
- 12 Volt Battery Terminal Reconnect - Refer to: 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (3.5L Engine) or 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (3.0L Engine)
- EPS Control Unit Update - Refer to: Steering Angle Neutral Position Learning or EPS Control Unit Update (When replacing the steering gearbox)
- Check these items:
-
- With the front wheels straight ahead, make sure the steering wheel is centered and the turning revolutions from center to full lock (left and right) is equal. If not, check the installation of the steering wheel and the engagement of the joint/pinion shaft splines.
- With the tires raised off the ground, check for noise and abnormality by turning the steering wheel fully to the right and left several times.
- Check the power steering assist .
- Check that the EPS indicator does not come on.
- Wheel Alignment Check - Refer to: Wheel Alignment (3.0L Engine) or Wheel Alignment (3.5L Engine)
- VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization - Refer to: VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization or VSA Modulator-Control Unit Update
