Steering System Description - Components
Steering Gearbox
VGR (Variable Gear Ratio)
The VGR is applied to the steering rack. The quick gear ratio is applied near the straight ahead position of the steering rack for smooth start of steering operation. The normal gear ratio is applied for large steering angles.
Power Tilt/Telescopic Steering
The power tilt/telescopic steering can use the tilt motor to adjust the up and down position of the steering wheel, while the telescopic motor can adjust it forward or backwards, widening flexibility in the driving position.
Tilt Mechanism
When the tilt motor runs, it is transmitted through the worm gear, worm wheel, and tilt nut to move the column housing mounted on the tilt bracket up and down. The vertical position of the steering wheel is detected by a sensor built into the tilt motor, and the signal is sent to the power tilt/telescopic steering control unit. The power tilt/telescopic steering control unit drives the tilt motor until the current steering wheel position matches the memorized position data, adjusting the vertical position of the steering wheel.
Telescopic Mechanism
When the telescopic motor runs, it is transmitted through the worm gear, worm wheel, and telescopic nut to move the column pipe forward and backwards. The forward position of the steering wheel is detected by a sensor built into the telescopic motor, and the signal is sent to the power tilt/telescopic steering control unit. The power tilt/telescopic steering control unit drives the telescopic motor, adjusting the forward position of the steering wheel until the current steering wheel position matches the memorized position.
