How to Release Park Lock: Procedure
NOTICE:
- This function enables the transmission to be shifted to the N position/mode while the vehicle is in the OFF (LOCK) mode. After completing any procedures that requires the vehicle in the N position/mode, be sure to return it to the P position/mode.
- Do not turn the vehicle to the ON mode while releasing the park lock.
- Park Lock - Release
Preconditions
- Vehicle on Level Ground
- All Four Wheels Blocked
- Air Cleaner Housing Removed - Refer to: Air Cleaner Area(3.0L Engine) or Air Cleaner Area(2.0L Engine)
Procedure/Specifications
- Release the park lock by rotating the control shaft (a) counterclockwise with an open-end wrench as shown.
NOTICE:
If you need to return to the P position/mode, rotate the control shaft clockwise to the original position.

- After the procedure, be sure to do the following procedures.

- Return to the P position/mode.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Start the engine.NOTE: Check that the engine starts in P position/mode, and does not start in any other positions/modes.
- While pressing the brake pedal firmly, shift the transmission to each position/mode.
- Make sure the shift position indicator follows the shift operation. If it does not, rotate the control shaft to the original position again.
