Repair Procedure

How to use this manual .

  1. A.-

    Key Information 

    Do the following before starting your work.

    Remove:

    Removal 

    • Refer to the figure.
  2. B.-

    Preconditions 

    • The vehicle is in the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    Key Information 

    Do the following before starting your work.

    Remove:

    NOTE:
    • With the driver's door open, turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then wait at least 3 minutes before disconnecting the 12 volt negative battery cable.
    • When disconnecting the 12 volt battery terminal, always disconnect the negative side first.
    • When connecting the 12 volt battery terminal, always connect the positive side first.
    • If the 12 volt battery performs abnormally, test the 12 volt battery - Refer to: 12 Volt Battery Test .

    Removal 

    NOTE:  Do not hold the 12 volt battery sensor connector (a) when disconnecting/connecting the negative terminal. (Figure 1)

    • Refer to the figure 1.

    Installation 

    Lubricant Specifications (Figure 2)

    WARNING:
    • Use of a battery not designed for this vehicle could cause a hydrogen gas leak inside the vehicle, resulting in a fire or explosion that may cause injury or death.
    • Only install a 12 volt AGM battery designed for use in this vehicle.
    NOTE:
    • Strong impacts (i.e., dropping the 12 volt battery, collision damage) may cause electrolyte leaks, internal short circuit and heat increase resulting in fire. Avoid impacts to the 12 volt battery.
    • Organic electrolyte is poisonous. If ingested, get medical attention immediately.
    • 12 volt battery damage may cause flammable gas or electrolyte leaks and may result in fire. Do not damage the 12 volt battery and keep sparks, flame, and cigarettes away.
    • When replacing the 12 volt battery, replace it with an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery type, and must be of the same specifications.

    After Installation

    NOTE:

    Make sure the 12 volt battery vent tube is securely installed.
