A/C Compressor Clutch Check: Check
- A/C Compressor Clutch - Check
Procedure/Specifications
- Refer to the figure.
Specifications
Position Condition Specification a --- No discoloration, peeling, or other damage b Rotate No play, drag, noise, or grease leakage Result
- If the result is not as specified, replace the clutch set
.
NOTICE:
The pulley and the armature plate were mated at the factory by a burnishing operation. Always replace the pulley and the plate as a set. Replacing only one part of the clutch set will cause clutch slippage.
- Pulley-to-Armature Plate Clearance - Check
Procedure/Specifications
- Measure the clearance of the pulley all the way around.
Tool Details
Name a Feeler Gauge Specifications
Specification Value 0.21-0.55 mm (0.009-0.021 in) Result
- If the measurement is not within specifications, remove the armature plate and add or remove shims as needed to increase or decrease clearance.
- A/C Compressor Clutch Field Coil - Check
Procedure/Specifications
Specifications
Object Specification Value Field Coil 4.9-5.3 Ohm at 68 deg.F (20 deg.C) Result
- If the measurement is not within specifications, replace the field coil .
- A/C Compressor Clutch Oil - Leak Check
Procedure/Specifications
1. Remove the armature plate , and inspect the armature plate and pulley friction surface for wear. If there is excessive wear, roughness, or scoring, replace the clutch set .
2. Inspect the friction surfaces and the A/C compressor shaft hub for excess oil. If excess oil is present and it is not from the engine or other system, the A/C compressor shaft seal is leaking. In that case, replace the A/C compressor - Refer to: A/C Compressor/Engine Oil Pan Area(3.0L Engine) or A/C Compressor/Engine Oil Pan Area(2.0L Engine) .
