DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2653 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P2653: Rocker Arm Oil Control Solenoid Circuit Low Voltage
General Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) commands the rocker arm control solenoid to switches the valve timing by opening and closing the oil passage to the variable cylinder management (VCM) mechanism. If the malfunction detection signal is OFF (low) while the PCM outputs ON (high) to the rocker arm control solenoid, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The malfunction detection signal is OFF (low) for at least 0.5 second while the PCM outputs ON (high) to the rocker arm control solenoid.
Possible Cause
- Rocker arm oil control solenoid CSS line short to ground
- Rocker arm oil control solenoid failure
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
