DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2623 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P2623: High Pressure Fuel Pump Spill Valve Malfunction
General Description
The high pressure fuel pump adjusts the pressure of the fuel rail internal combustion and is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) ON/OFF command. The injector driver IC controls the high pressure fuel pump driver circuit according to the drive commands output from the microcomputer (MCU) and drives the high pressure fuel pump. The injector driver IC monitors injector currents and terminal voltage of the PCM and transmits results to the MCU. If the monitored conditions are abnormal for a specified time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Either of the condition occurs for at least 0.5 second during engine stall, or at least 2, 400 revolutions during engine running:
- The high pressure fuel pump current does not flow or it is over flowing while the power is fed.
- The high pressure fuel pump line voltage is short to ground voltage or short to power voltage while the power is not fed.
Possible Cause
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPH line open
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPH line short to ground
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPH line short to power
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPL line open
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPL line short to ground
- High pressure fuel pump HPUMPL line short to power
- Injector relay stuck off
- High pressure fuel pump failure
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
