DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2598 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P2598: Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Stuck Low
General Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) adjusts the boost pressure by controlling the turbocharger wastegate control actuator of the turbocharger. The turbocharger wastegate control actuator is controlled open from the closed position when the vehicle is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode from the ON mode. The PCM compares the open position with the fully closed position. If the difference between the open position and closed position of the turbocharger wastegate control actuator is small, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator open position - (minus) turbocharger wastegate control actuator closed position is less than 2 mm (0.07 in).
Possible Cause
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator failure
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator position sensor failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and leave the vehicle for at least 12 seconds.
- Start the engine and let it idle.
- Test the vehicle in the condition of outside temperature of 32 deg.F (0 deg.C) or more.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
