DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P24B9 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P24B9: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Leak Check Module Pressure Sensor Range/Performance Problem
General Description
The evaporative emission (EVAP) leak check module pressure is monitored by comparing the value of the measured EVAP leak check module pressure sensor with the value of the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor before the engine is started. If the difference between the measured EVAP leak check module pressure sensor value and the value of the MAP value sensor before the engine start is excessive, the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 10 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | Two drive cycles, MIL on |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Elapsed time after the vehicle is turned to the ON mode | 500 milliseconds | - |
| Canister change over valve | Open | |
| EVAP leak check module vacuum pump | Off | |
Malfunction Threshold
The absolute difference between the EVAP leak check module pressure sensor value and the value of the MAP sensor before the engine start is 15 kPa (113 mmHg, 4.5 inHg) or more for at least 10 seconds.
Possible Cause
- EVAP leak check module pressure sensor failure
- MAP sensor failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and leave the vehicle for at least 10 seconds.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for at least 11 seconds.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
