DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2270 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P2270: Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (Secondary HO2S (Sensor 2)) Circuit Signal Stuck Lean
General Description
High output performance monitor
Low output performance monitor
The powertrain control module (PCM) determines the characteristic abnormality of the secondary heated oxygen sensor (secondary HO2S (sensor 2)) by monitoring the voltage of the secondary HO2S (sensor 2) during the fuel-cut-off and recovering from the fuel cut-off. If the voltage of the secondary HO2S (sensor 2) during the fuel cut-off is a specified value, or if the voltage of the secondary HO2S (sensor 2) during the catalyst neutralization that is done after the recovery from the fuel cut-off is a specified value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 30 seconds or more*, 7.8 seconds or more** |
| DTC Type | Two drive cycles, MIL on |
*: High output performance monitor**: Low output performance monitor
Enable Conditions
High output performance monitor
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary HO2S (sensor 2) element temperature | 1, 022 deg.F (550 deg.C) | - |
| Other | During catalyst neutralization (temporarily controls air/fuel ratio to rich) | |
Low output performance monitor
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary HO2S (sensor 2) element temperature | 1, 022 deg.F (550 deg.C) | - |
| Other | During fuel cut-off | |
Malfunction Threshold
- High output performance monitor
The voltage of the secondary HO2S (sensor 2) during the catalyst neutralization is less than 0.62 V for at least 30 seconds.
- Low output performance monitor
The voltage of the secondary HO2S (sensor 2) during the fuel cut-off is more than 0.3 V for at least 7.8 seconds.
Possible Cause
- Secondary HO2S (sensor 2) failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Start the engine, and let it idle until the radiator fan comes on.
- Drive immediately at a steady engine speed [Engine Speed] between 1, 500 - 3, 000 rpm and take 15 seconds to decelerate with accelerator pedal released.
- Drive the vehicle for 30 seconds or more.
[ ]: HDS Parameter
- When freeze data is stored, drive the vehicle under those conditions instead of Driving Pattern step 2.
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
