DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2228, P2229 (3.0L Engine)
DTC P2228: Barometric Pressure (BARO) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage DTC P2229: Barometric Pressure (BARO) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
General Description
The barometric pressure (BARO) sensor is built into the powertrain control module (PCM), and it monitors atmospheric pressure. The BARO sensor output voltage is converted to A/D in the sensor inside, and transmitted to a CPU by serial communication. If the measurement value of the BARO sensor is abnormal for a specified time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

DTC: P2228
The BARO sensor output value [Baro Sensor] is 51.95 kPa (389.6 mmHg, 15.34 inHg)* 1 (44.106 kPa (330.82 mmHg, 13.0245 inHg))* 2 or less for at least 0.5 second.
DTC: P2229
The BARO sensor output value [Baro Sensor] is 111.994 kPa (840.03 mmHg, 33.0719 inHg)* 1 (117.419 kPa (880.72 mmHg, 34.6739 inHg))* 2 or more for at least 0.5 second.

Possible Cause
- BARO sensor failure
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
